Ford Expands Truck Lineup by Reviving the Midsize Ranger

As gas prices tumble, more Arizona drivers are choosing trucks than ever before. If you can hold out for a few years, your options in the Ford lineup are about to expand. In 2019, the Ford Ranger is returning.

Last time we saw this smaller pickup, it was part of the compact segment. Though it's been gone from North America for several years, the nameplate has lived on and was redesigned for global markets. The new Ranger sold in New Zealand is a midsize pickup, and we can guess that the 2019 Ranger coming to Apache Junction will also fall into this segment.

There may not be much we can learn by observing the global Ranger, as Ford has promised the U.S. version will have different engines and unique styling, and it may be due for a complete redesign.

We may be able to speculate on its character, however. While full-size trucks typical focus on their towing and hauling prowess, midsize models often highlight their fun off-road capabilities. The Ranger "Wildtrak" recently reviewed by Autoblog is clear evidence of its fierce, playful personality, which will translate to what we see in the North American version.
